Tyco Traffic Controller Training Held in Doha

24 June 2013

Tyco Traffic & Transportation, the manufacturer of the Eclipse™ Traffic Signal Controller, conducted a comprehensive training course held 15 to 19 June 2013 at the Traffic Tech Gulf (TTG) office in Doha. Attended by TTG staff and representatives from the Qatar Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the course provided in-depth information on customizing traffic signal controller programs, in particular "personality generation" for the Eclipse™ controller. The training also covered programming of the PSC controller, an older generation Tyco traffic controller.

Attendees gained knowledge on controller firmware design and an understanding on the structure of a common controller personality. The training included hands-on exercises on programming simple to very complex intersections. With the knowledge gained from this course and continuing practice, course participants are expected to have better understanding on the features of the Tyco Eclipse™ traffic controller and should be able to confidently customize the personality of the controller to provide appropriate traffic control at intersections.

"This traffic controller training is very important for us as I believe that 90% of the controllers we use in Doha are from Tyco", says Engineer Abdul Aziz Ali Alsada, Head of Safety Operation & Traffic Control Division in Ashghal. "Since technology transfer from manufacturer to end-user is vital in achieving long term success of our projects, we at Ashghal encourage our people to attend manufacturer trainings. We extend our appreciation to Traffic Tech, our partner that supports us in implementing state-of-the-art traffic management & ITS technologies here in Qatar, for making this training happen", he adds.

Mr. Abdel Rahman Al Khateeb, Traffic Tech’s Executive Vice President & COO comments, "this training complements our continuing objective of ensuring that our people are equipped with up-to-date technical knowledge to deliver the highest level of service that the market requires". "The presence of Ashghal representatives in this training is valuable as we believe that transfer of knowledge enables our clients to build confidence in our products and allows them to be technically capable of evaluating the performance, of not only the equipment they use, but also the contractors that execute and support their projects".
