Traffic Tech - Engineered solution within reach
Truck Weigh Stations on Salwa Highway in Qatar are Now Operational
11 January 2010

Traffic Tech Group announces the completion of six (6) state-of-the-art Truck Weigh Stations on Salwa Highway, an international road connecting Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The Public Works Authority (PWA) in Qatar has also awarded Traffic Tech a contract to operate the stations for a period of two (2) years.
Each station consists of four main parts. At the station approach, there are Main Line Sensors covering all four lanes in one direction of the freeway. These sensors are used for permanent traffic data collection, an ITS component that forms part of the highway’s road asset management system.
The other parts cover the weigh enforcement side. Trucks will initially pass through the Ramp Screening Scale, wherein potential overweight violation is identified. In addition, this part is also equipped with an Over-height Vehicle Detection System (OVDS) that detects over-height violation. Next is the Multi Platform Static Scale, where overweight violation is verified through static weighing. And last are the Bypass Lanes that capture information of trucks that avoided the weigh station. Highly advanced Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) technology was adopted at the mainline, ramp screening, and bypass lanes, allowing data capture of moving vehicles.
